On February 11, director Grant Holcomb and Board president Andy Gallina accepted a proclamation honoring the Gallery's Lincoln exhibition from Jean Howard, chief of staff to mayor Bob Duffy, and city coucilwoman Elaine Spaull. Photo by Richard Baker.
Lincoln in Rochester
"We looked for a nationally touring exhibition about Abraham Lincoln," says MAG director (and longtime Lincoln admirer) Grant Holcomb, "and when we couldn't find one, we created our own." On February 12, Lincoln's 200th birthday, a special opening day admission of one Lincoln penny brought in 893 visitors, many of them first-timers. What they saw were more than 40 images of our 16th president from MAG and other area collections. As Holcomb noted in numerous press interviews, it wasn't Lincoln's first appearance in Rochester. His inaugural train made a stop here in 1861, followed tragically by his funeral train four years later. Lincoln in Rochester remains on view through April 19.
